রাজ্যের ওভারভিউ
Tripura is a 10,486 km² state in the eastern North-East, bordered on three sides by Bangladesh. The population is roughly 36 lakh — 70% Bengali Hindu (descended from undivided Bengal Hindu refugees post-1947 and 1971) and 30% tribal (19 communities, with Tripuri being the largest). The state's geography is dominated by north-south parallel hill ranges (tilla) separated by valley plains (lunga) — about 60% of cultivable area is on tilla low hills and 40% on lunga valleys. About 50% of the workforce is in agriculture.
Tripura is famous for its Queen Pineapple — a low-acid, intensely sweet variety with deep golden flesh, GI-tagged 2015, declared the State Fruit, and now exported via the Agartala–Akhaura international land port to Bangladesh and onward to Middle East. Tripura ranks #2 in India for natural rubber after Kerala — the state is positioned as the 'Rubber Capital of NE India' with the Rubber Board's Tripura subsidiary plantations covering ~80,000 ha. Other agricultural specialities: Jampui Hills Orange, bamboo (Mountain Bamboo Society of Tripura), areca nut, and the famous Matabari Peda (a milk-sweet GI from Udaipur, Tripura). The Mukhyamantri Jhum Bunkar Yojana targets jhum-to-settled conversion for ~16,000 ST families.

মাটির প্রোফাইল
Tripura's soils are red-yellow lateritic in the central tilla (low hill) belt — acidic (pH 5.0–6.0), organic-matter-moderate, suited to pineapple, banana and orange. Alluvial soils dominate the valley floors of the Khowai, Gomati, Manu, Haora rivers. Mountain forest soils in Jampui Hills and Sakhan range. Tilla (low hills, slope <10°) and lunga (valley) is the dominant soil-and-terrain dichotomy in Tripura land classification.
জল সম্পদ
Rainfall 2200 mm; SW monsoon contributes 80%. Rivers drain into Bangladesh. The Gumti hydel project (Dumboor Lake) is the state's main reservoir. Net irrigated area at 31% is highest in the NE after Manipur, due to extensive minor irrigation and pump-based systems serving the valley paddy.

JaMaBandi TripuraCropping calendar
Tripura's calendar: Kharif paddy transplanted June-July, harvested October-November. Rabi paddy in irrigated valley pockets December-March. Queen pineapple harvest May-July (main season). Jampui orange harvest December-February. Jackfruit May-August. Areca nut continuous harvest. Rubber tapping 6-7 months/year (post-monsoon to pre-monsoon, peak Oct-March).
MSP procurement & mandi network
Cereal MSP procurement is limited. Rubber Production Incentive Scheme under Rubber Board ensures floor price. Queen Pineapple Mission subsidises plantation expansion and export-grade processing (the Tripura Pineapple GI 2015 enabled premium positioning).
District-wise crop concentrations
District concentrations: paddy (top — Dhalai, South Tripura, North Tripura, West Tripura — valley belts); rubber (top — Dhalai, North Tripura, West Tripura — Tripura is India's #2 rubber producer); queen pineapple (top — North Tripura, Unakoti — GI 2015); jampui orange (top — North Tripura, Jampui Hills); cashew (top — South Tripura); areca nut (top — North Tripura, Dhalai); bamboo (top — Khowai, Dhalai — National Bamboo Mission node).
Climate-resilience & soil-test interpretation
Tripura's landlocked geography (96% land border with Bangladesh) creates market-access constraints, partly addressed by the Agartala-Akhaura land port (2023) which enables direct fruit export. Jhum-to-settled conversion under Mukhyamantri Jhum Bunkar Yojana targets 16,000 ST families. Climate-stress: monsoon variability, occasional pre-monsoon hail damage to pineapple bloom.
স্থানীয় ভাষা
Bengali in the Bengali script is the official language (Tripura is the only state outside West Bengal where Bengali is dominant). Kokborok (Tibeto-Burman, written in Bengali or Roman) is co-official since 1979 — the language of the indigenous Tripuri tribe. The state has 19 tribal groups including Tripuri (largest), Reang, Jamatia, Chakma, Lushai, Mog.
