ରାଜ୍ୟ ସମୀକ୍ଷା
Lakshadweep is India's smallest Union Territory by area — just 32 km² total land area across 36 coral atolls and reefs in the Arabian Sea, of which only 10 are inhabited. The UT's ~70,000 population is overwhelmingly Muslim (~97%) and speaks Malayalam (with Mahl on Minicoy). Agriculture is restricted to coconut monoculture (95% of cultivated area) and minor banana, papaya, drumstick, colocasia and breadfruit on kitchen plots. The Coconut Development Board procures ~25,000 tonnes of copra annually from Lakshadweep, and virgin coconut oil (VCO) is being developed as a value-added product.
The dominant economic activity is marine fishery — Lakshadweep is famous for pole-and-line tuna fishing, an MSC-certified sustainable method targeting Skipjack tuna without bycatch. About 60% of male employment is in fisheries or related activities. The atolls' delicate coral ecology has prevented introduction of any chemical-input agriculture; Lakshadweep is de-facto organic by ecological constraint. The UT is among the world's most climate-vulnerable — average elevation under 3 m above sea level, with severe storm-surge and saltwater-intrusion risk. Note: Cultivation footprint is minimal — guide kept to 600-800 words by design.

Lakshadweep's atoll soils are thin coral-sand — calcareous, alkaline (pH 7.5–8.5), with very low organic matter except where coconut leaf-litter has built up. The entire archipelago is coral-atoll geology with maximum elevation under 3 m above sea level — Lakshadweep is among the world's most climate-change-vulnerable territories.
ଜଳ ସମ୍ବଳ
Rainfall 1600 mm — but coral-sand soils retain very little. There are no surface streams. Drinking water depends on shallow rainwater-recharged lenses (Ghyben-Herzberg lens) and desalination. Cultivation is rainfed; no irrigation infrastructure of significance.

Lakshadweep RevenueCropping calendar
Lakshadweep: Coconut continuous year-round (8-10 harvests per palm). Banana continuous. Drumstick, papaya, colocasia rainfed kitchen gardens.
MSP procurement & mandi network
Coconut Development Board procures copra at MIS rates. No cereal procurement. Tuna fishery is the dominant cash economy.
District-wise crop concentrations
Single administrative district. 10 inhabited islands: Kavaratti (capital), Agatti, Andrott, Amini, Kadmat, Kalpeni, Kiltan, Chetlat, Bitra, Minicoy (Mahl-speaking).
Climate-resilience & soil-test interpretation
Lakshadweep is among the world's most climate-vulnerable territories — average elevation <3 m above sea level, severe storm-surge and saltwater-intrusion risk. Note: Cultivation footprint is minimal — guide kept to 600-800 words by design.
ସ୍ଥାନୀୟ ଭାଷା
Malayalam in Malayalam script is the official language (Lakshadweep is administratively linked to Kerala). The local Mahl language (a dialect of Dhivehi, the Maldives national language) is spoken on Minicoy Island and written in the Thaana script.
